Sagewell Selected to Operate a Unique Electric Vehicle Peak Load Management Program for Municipal Utilities

Woburn, MA, June 23, 2017 --(PR.com)-- Sagewell, Inc. (www.sagewell.com) announces that it has received a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (“DOER”) to work with Massachusetts municipal utilities to launch an innovative electric vehicle (“EV”) peak load reduction program. Sagewell, an industry leader in electric vehicle peak load reduction programs and smart meter data analytics, will use a cutting-edge smart charger plug that transforms non-load-controllable EV chargers into “smart chargers.” Sagewell will benchmark the device’s performance to industry-standard smart EV chargers and to Sagewell’s innovative “Bring Your Own ChargerSM” program for utilities with smart meters.

Sagewell will be working with multiple municipal electric utilities in Massachusetts to launch the program this summer. The electric vehicle programs of Belmont Light (belmontdriveselectric.org) and Braintree Electric Light Department (braintreedriveselectric.com) are the first participants in the program. The results and insights from this pilot program will be used to inform future grant and other funding opportunities.

The DOER peak load reduction grant program seeks to find creative and cost-effective ways to reduce the large peak load costs faced by Massachusetts utility customers. “Sagewell is honored to have been selected by DOER” said Sagewell CEO Pasi Miettinen. “Municipal utilities already have some of the highest electric vehicle penetration rates in Massachusetts. We look forward to working with up to 10 municipal utilities to use these new approaches to reduce the peak load from electric vehicles today and proactively prepare for the day when Massachusetts will have hundreds of thousands electric vehicles.”

“Massachusetts is proud to be a national leader in energy efficiency programs that reduce overall consumption and we are committed to continuing our work to improve energy costs disproportionately affected by times of peak demand,” said Governor Charlie Baker. “The demonstration projects funded through these grants will strengthen our innovation economy and provide the Commonwealth with a roadmap for reducing our most expensive energy loads and securing our energy future.”
